What comes out with the tub

Where a hot tub ends up

Not much of a hot tub gets a second life, but the parts that can, do. A hard cover that still holds its shape, or a skirt panel with no rot in it, can go to a donation center. The metal in the frame and the pump housing is recycled where it can be, the same path a load of scrap metal takes. The shell is the part nobody can do much with, so the acrylic and the plywood backing go to the landfill as real trash. On a rental or a managed property he will set the day with the manager and sort out which gate is unlocked, so nobody is waiting on a tenant to be home. He loads it himself once the path is clear.

Spa chemicals are the one that catches people. The chlorine and the shock bucket in the cabinet are pool and spa chemicals, which count as household hazardous waste, so they stay with the homeowner. The tub itself has to be disconnected first. Anything still connected to gas, water or power needs cutting loose before it can go, and a hot tub is wired in and plumbed, so it should be dead at the breaker and drained before load day. From the shed beside the tub, Brandon also leaves paint, solvents, thinners and household chemicals, along with motor oil, antifreeze, fuel cans, car batteries and anything still holding liquid. Propane and any pressurized cylinder stay too, patio and camping bottles included. Anything around the pad that might contain asbestos is work for a licensed abatement contractor.
